IMPACT OF PARENTAL LEAVE ON WOMEN’S CAREER STRATEGIES

Annotation. The article raises the problem of the impact of parental leave on women’s career strategies. The authors note that, despite the urgency of the problem of women’s return to work after the birth of a child, this period is not regarded as a possibility to re-think further career strategies and ways of professional development. A qualitative study was conducted, based on the method of interview was conducted to analyze the problem. The informants are women on leave to care for a child up to three years old, living in Saransk. The study showed that the career strategies of such women depend on their lifestyle, which affects the choice or rejection of stereotypical ideas about a career, the place of work, ways to find it, and the use of their professional resources and competencies. As a result of empirical analysis, style models of women’s actions are identified («innovative», «traditional», «inert») the key features of which affect the choice of career strategies. It is shown that parental leave is one of the most important periods for a woman to understand and realize her career trajectory.
