THE SOVIET UNION AS PART OF THE COLLECTIVE MEMORY OF YOUTH: A SOCIOLOGICAL ANALYSIS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Annotation.<\/strong> The article is devoted to the study of the collective and historical memory of young people about the Soviet Union. The authors note that the transition from the \u201cSoviet identity\u201d to the \u201cRussian identity\u201d was never completed. The most problematic issue is the consolidation of society, namely, the unity between the generation that lived in the Soviet Union and those who were born after its collapse. The translation of the positive experience of the past by older generation’s to the younger generation leads both to the mythologization and idealization of the image of the USSR, and on the contrary, to a rigid rejection of everything connected with the Soviet era, since a part of contemporary young people do not accept the position of the elders. To analyze the problem, a qualitative study was conducted, based on free interviews with young people aged 18 to 30 years, living in the Republic of Mordovia. The research has shown that contemporary youth have an ambiguous attitude to the Soviet period, and their ideas about the Soviet Union are often figurative and fragmentary, as they are based mainly on educational materials, as well as on the stories of relatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
